Sapporo Art Park
The Sapporo Art Park is an effort to present art in a more open and accessible environment. Established in 1986, the natural and spacious setting allows both artist and the works of art to interact with both nature and the public. Visitors also has opportunities to test their own artistic talents at the park's regular workshops in crafts such as ceramics, cloisonne, and weaving, as well as glass, wood and silver crafts.
The 40 hectare park is in the southern suburbs of the city and consists of a Sculpture Garden, the Museum of Contemporary Art, various craft halls and studios, an outdoor stage, a music hall and a number of artists' cottages. The Sculpture Garden has a permanent display of over seventy pieces of art distributed openly over a 7.5 hectare outdoor setting. There is also a Hidden Garden which reportedly has a more integrated work set within it. The Museum of Contemporary Art provides regular exhibitions of works by world famous artists.
There is an entry fee for the Sculpture Garden and Museum but much of the park's woodlands, as well as the studios and other buildings, can be enjoyed for free. The entry fee for the Sculpture Garden is 600 yen for adults, 480 yen for seniors and free for children and Junior high school students. There is a separate admission fee for the Museum of Contemporary Art that varies depending on the exhibition. A combination ticket is available for the two facilities whose price depends on the current museum rate.
