A new series of works Kia kaha
are now exhibiting at Bronte Gallery
From Feb 1st to 28th 2009
A new series of individual paintings will be exhibited from 1st to the 28th of Feb 2009
These works were created over the winter and spring months in his studio and are many moods of red,black and white.
Ake ake kia kaha= in Maori forever and ever be strong
Kia kaha =be strong
These words from the Maori Language were the motivation to paint from and Darryl Said "It has been very rewarding to paint them and to get inspiration from these words".
It is also the motto used by the famous and courageous Maori Battalion in World War 2 along with the equally famous and courageous 75 RAF Squadron .
