DALAI LAMA ARTWORK

October 2005 sees the opening of the Nelson Provincial Museum and Tasman Bays Heritage Trust, which will include a ceramic artwork on exhibition, co-produced by the Dalai Lama and Nelson artist
Darryl Robertson .It was completeted in 1996.

 

 

October 2006 will see the offical opening of the new Nelson Provincial Museum
and Tasman Bays Heritage Trust Museum Building . Situated on the corner of Hardy and Trafalgar Streets in central Nelson, New Zealand, on what was the original Nelson town acre site.The aim has been to provide the Nelson community with a world class facitlity that everyone Nelsonians and tourists alike can enjoy and have access to.

This town acre site was home to the first museum in New Zealand , it was the Library and Scientific Institute of New Zealand (1842).

The Museum is home to over 1.4 million treasures some of which will be on exhibition for the opening.

One special treasure "THE DALAI LAMA MESSAGE " is a ceramic artwork in the form of a wall
mounted sculptural plate which was made by Nelson artist Darryl Robertson, with the co-operation of the Dalai Lama and the Nelson , New Zealand and Tibetan Buddist communties.

Darryl Robertson asked the Dalai Lama if he would write a message for the people of Nelson their children and their childrens children .The Dalai Lama agreed and was very happy to carefully compose and skillfully write the message in beautiful Tibetan brush painted form, fully signing it at the finish with his full name and title and date.

The ceramic artwork had other detailing, symbols, various glaze treatments and kiln firing by Darryl Robertson on it indicating some the Dalai Lamas life.It was completed in 1996 at Bronte Gallery Nelson, New Zealand.

The artwork with a message is truly unique and a treasure for the people of Nelson from a great man the 14th Dalai Lama ,Tenzin Gyatso of Tibet.

THE MESSAGE READS:

" I PRAY TO THE THREE JEWELS THAT ALL BEINGS HAVE PERMANENT HAPPINESS AND PEACE"

 

SIGNED : 12/9/1996 FROM THE TIBETAN BUDDIST BIKKSHU.THE DALAI LAMA TENZIN GYATSO.

The 14th Dalai Lama continues to live in exile in India and promote peace and understanding.

Make sure you go to the museum to see this artwork that will be showing in the permanent collection along with many other fine historic treasures at the Nelson Provincial Museum from mid oct 2005 onwards.

 

The" Dalai Lama Message "truly is a very special treasure for the people of Nelson, New Zealand for today and years to come.
